M.C. Gill Composites Center student awarded scholarships

PhD student Emily Anne Vargas was honored with receiving both the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Dissertation Scholarship, Helen Cuesta Scholarship, and the Los Angeles Professional Chapter Scholarship. The mission of SHPE is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. The SHPE Dissertation Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding SHPE member pursuing a STEM doctoral degree for their dedication, commitment, and selfless efforts to grow and advance Hispanics in STEM careers. The SHPE Helen Cuesta Scholarship recognizes a deserving female student in SHPE who has demonstrated the ability to overcome life’s obstacles and who is on their way towards succeeding in life in spite of what life throws their way. The SHPE Los Angeles Professional Chapter Scholarship recognizes someone who exemplifies integrity, community service and leadership through their academic achievements and commitment to SHPE.
