Bo Jin, a Ph.D. student advised by Professor Steven Nutt, was elected the Chair of Fellows of USC Center for Excellence in Teaching. Bo was named as a Fellow of USC CET since 2012.
The USC Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET), an independent organization directly under the USC’s Provost Office, is a university-wide fellow-driven organization dedicated to the inspiration and advancement of outstanding teachers in a learner-centered environment. The mission of CET is to provide shared leadership, vision, and support committed to the inspiration, development, and advancement of USC’s education. Through a variety of activities, CET encourages the widespread promulgation of innovative pedagogies among USC’s faculty and students. In addition, it fosters the development of junior faculty and doctoral students with aspirations of academic careers through mentoring and structured programs.
USC CET is unique among centers and institutes with similar purposes at major U.S. colleges and universities, as its programs are conceived and implemented by CET’s creative Faculty and TA Fellows who have committed to excellence and innovation in teaching. They are an interdisciplinary community of practice, addressing the impact of educational technologies and innovative pedagogies on student learning across the curriculum. In addition, the Fellows constitute an intellectual resource on the assessment of instruction and educational policy.

About Bo Jin:
Bo is a 3rd year Ph.D. student and teaching assistant in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, also a research assistant in the Merwyn C. Gill Composites Center within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. His research work focuses on computational mechanics on high-performance composites, modeling, and finite element analysis. Bo has been working closely with MSC Nastran (NASA Structural Analysis) Development since 2012.
Before joining USC, Bo was a research assistant and teaching assistant, also a course lecturer at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he received his M.S. degree.
During his time at USC and Rutgers, Bo taught the following courses by himself: “Mechanical Engineering Computational Analysis and Design with Numerical Methods (Advanced MATLAB)”, “Engineering Computing with MATLAB” and “Engineering Mechanics Statics”. He was also the TA, the discussion session teacher, and the recitation session teacher for the courses “Aircraft Structural Analysis (Aerospace Structures)”, “Computational Solutions to Engineering Problems (Numerical Methods using MATLAB)” and “Introduction to Computational Methods using MATLAB” respectively.
Bo has extensive study and living experience in Asia, Europe, and America. During his time at USC, he also served as the vice president of USC_CSSA (USC Chinese Students and Scholars Association).
